Ian Dankelman focuses his practice on commercial and residential property insurance claim disputes and extracontractual insurance litigation. Before joining Merlin Law Group, Ian served as a law clerk to an active United States District Judge in Tampa, Florida. During his two years in chambers, he had the opportunity to engage in extensive legal research and writing, and gain a strong familiarity with the federal court system. After his clerkship, Ian knew that he wanted to serve policyholders in their fight for justice.
After graduating cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Ian began his career as an assistant state attorney in the Fourth Judicial Circuit. As a prosecutor, Ian gained trial experience and sharpened his litigation skills. Before commencing his clerkship, Ian progressed to the felony line division.
In law school, Ian won book awards in Legal Research and Writing, and served as the internal vice president of the prestigious moot court team. During his second year of law school, the Florida Supreme Court named Ian the best oral advocate at an internal moot court competition.
For nearly two years before law school, Ian served as a member of the Florida Division of Emergency Management and State Emergency Response Team. His time serving his fellow Floridians during disasters inspired him to advocate on behalf of policyholders after storms and other natural disasters. As a member of the State Emergency Response Team, Ian helped coordinate the responses to the BP oil spill in the Florida Panhandle, and served in the state emergency operations center during activations for tropical weather events.
