Biography

William “Corey” Harris is a nationally recognized trial attorney known for his expertise in first-party property insurance litigation and bad faith claims. Corey obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law where he graduated cum laude. During his law school tenure he received honors in Legal Research and Writing and served as a teaching assistant for both Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy.

Prior to his legal career, Corey earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Auburn University, graduating cum laude.

Corey’s legal journey began as a Legal Intern for the Honorable Michael Bolin at the Alabama Supreme Court where he worked closely with Justice Bolin on cases pending before the court. He then worked as a law clerk at Merlin Law Group for multiple years before joining the firm full time in 2009.

Currently, Corey manages a team of paralegals and attorneys at Merlin Law Group in Tampa, Florida, specializing in first-party property insurance litigation and bad faith claims. He is currently licensed in Florida, California, Texas, and Colorado. He maintains a national practice and has personally handled cases in states across the country.

Corey’s dedication to the legal profession has earned him recognition as one of the top attorneys in his field, including accolades such as being listed in Best Lawyers by US News and World Report, Florida Super Lawyers, and Tampa Bay Magazine’s Top Attorneys. He is an active member of several professional associations, including the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association’s Trial Lawyers Division, and the Florida Justice Association, among others. He also previously served as the general counsel for the Rocky Mountain Association of Public Insurance Adjusters.

Corey is a sought-after speaker on property insurance and has been asked to present on topics from pre-suit settlements to best practices and evolving industry trends. He has also been featured in various media outlets for his expertise in insurance law and litigation including Business Insurance news and Pocket Sense.

Corey and his wife Ashley (also an attorney at Merlin Law Group) have two young children, Liam and Scott. When not in the courtroom Corey enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his kids’ sports teams, sailing, and traveling.
