Mara Essick, Esq

Biography

A recent and welcome addition to Merlin Law Group, Mara Essick has significant experience and specializes in first-party insurance claims, as well as first-party bad faith cases.

A committed advocate dedicated to righting the wrongs done to her clients, Mara fights tirelessly for those whom the insurance companies try to take advantage of and force into unfair settlements by putting corporate concerns ahead of the needs of their insureds. She navigates the complexities of the law and handles the insurance companies so clients can focus on moving forward with their lives, seeking creative solutions to help maximize her client’s outcome in every case. As she sees it, each opportunity is a new challenge for her to do more, learn more, and raise the bar on what she can and does accomplish for her clients.

Prior to joining Merlin Law Group, Mara worked for nearly 10 years in personal injury law, including first- and third-party insurance claims, insurance bad faith cases, and cases on behalf of abused minors. She successfully negotiated settlements with insurance companies, adjusters, mediators, and attorneys in hundreds of cases. But if a settlement was not possible or best for her client, she would not back away from zealously advocating for them at trial. Her commitment to her clients and dedication to their advocacy has her most excited about opportunities to parlay her experience in the personal injury world and participate in trials on behalf of policyholders with Merlin Law Group.

Michigan born and raised (a Michigander, if you will), and an avid outdoorsperson since her move to Colorado over a decade ago, in her free time, Mara loves to hike, often exploring the natural beauty in her adopted home state with her dog, Sawyer, and beyond. She has hiked in places as far as New Zealand, and more recently hiked the Tour du Mont Blanc, a 100-mile loop traversing through Italy, Switzerland, and France, with friends and a broken toe. Traveling and exploring new places are also passions of hers, having lived in Rome for a year teaching Business English to Italian businessmen in between college and law school.

Once an only child, Mara embraces time with her now much larger blended family, large enough, she jokes, to have their own softball team. Her expanded family unit includes two stepsisters and two sets of twins, ranging in age from 19 through 40, and she cherishes her individual relationships with all six of her siblings.
