Denise Hsu Sze, Esq.
Denise H. Sze is Of Counsel at Merlin Law Group, P.A. with a diversified background in civil litigation, having emphasis in insurance bad faith and several other areas of practice. During her time as a civil litigator, Ms. Sze has represented hundreds of California business owners and individual policyholders against their insurance companies, helping them recover substantial payouts on their property and casualty insurance claims.
Ms. Sze has extensive case management experience in a variety of practice areas from inception of action through trial. Ms. Sze was the attorney hired on to open Los Angeles office of Merlin Law Group. Prior to her employment with Merlin she was the Managing Attorney of a boutique firm in Los Angeles representing consumers in property insurance bad faith litigation, breach of contract, catastrophic injury, wrongful death and elder abuse actions. Importantly, although, Ms. Sze’s practice is dedicated to consumers, her experience includes both plaintiff and defense practices in several practice areas, including product liability actions, copyright, patent and trademark litigation, stockbroker wrongdoing cases, and a variety of probate, trust and estate actions.
Ms. Sze has resided in Southern California for the last thirty years and attended the University of California at Los Angeles graduating with a degree in Sociology and Business Administration in 1996. Shortly thereafter she attended Loyola Law School graduating in 2001 while spending her summers at Morrison & Foerster, LLP working internationally in their Beijing office before returning to the US to work at Fogel & Associates where she began actively bringing Insurance bad faith case on behalf of the insured through UM/UIM claims.
Since 2014, Ms. Sze is the General Counsel for the California Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (CAPIA) and is actively involved on the specially formed CAPIA Executive Committee for legislative matters impacting insureds in the State of California. As a passionate consumer advocate she is also entrusted with the title of the California Director of the Legislative Committee for the American Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (AAPIA) where in turn she observes and reports on any changes in California legislation to AAPIA. Ms. Sze is an active member of the National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters and sits on the Ethics committee. She travels the country working on cases in multiple jurisdictions and teaches seminars on presenting and negotiating insurance claims.
Ms. Sze is an active member of consumer protection organizations groups such as the Consumer Attorneys of California, CAALA, amongst others. An active member of the California bar, she is also licensed to practice law in Hawaii.
