Carter Bess joined Merlin Law Group’s Tampa office in 2021. Prior to joining the firm, Carter practiced at another Tampa firm in their first-party property insurance litigation department representing homeowners and business owners in disputes against their property insurance carriers.
Carter received his B.A. from the University of Alabama where he double majored in History and Spanish, graduating summa cum laude. After completing his undergraduate degree, Carter attended Stetson University College of Law where he was on the Honor Roll and was a member of the Stetson Law Review. During his last year of law school, Carter co-founded Stetson Law’s Insurance Law Association and served as its Treasurer.
While originally from Alabama, Carter frequently visited the beaches in Florida’s panhandle throughout his childhood. During his second year of law school, Carter traveled home to help clean up after Hurricane Michael and witnessed firsthand the devastation that the storm caused in the Florida panhandle area. This experience ultimately prompted Carter to focus his law career on first-party property insurance litigation. Carter considers his first-hand experience helping victims of Hurricane Michael as the primary driving force behind his devotion as an advocate for policyholders.
