Biography
With over three decades of experience in the insurance industry, Etienne M. Font is a seasoned and highly respected attorney at Merlin Law Group. He brings a deep and practical understanding of complex first-party property claims, litigation, appraisals, arbitrations, and catastrophe loss adjustments. Etienne is passionate about advocating for policyholders nationwide, ensuring they receive fair treatment and the full benefits they’re entitled to under their insurance policies following catastrophic events and significant property losses.
Before joining Merlin Law Group in 2018, Etienne led a successful consultancy as an appraiser, arbitrator, and expert witness. He was engaged in a wide range of high-value claims—handling losses from $50,000 to more than $30 million—and frequently served as an appointed umpire in contentious insurance disputes. His consulting work encompassed coverage analysis, litigation support, and strategic claims management for both policyholders and insurers.
Etienne’s industry experience is both broad and distinguished. He has held senior leadership roles, including General Counsel and Commercial Claims Supervisor at a major insurance company, where he oversaw litigation strategy and complex claims in general liability, construction defect, and trucking matters. Additionally, as a CAT general adjuster with Crawford & Company, he managed substantial business interruption and structural damage claims across Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and Texas in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria—handling high-stakes losses for commercial properties such as hotels, churches, restaurants, and industrial facilities.
Earlier in his career, Etienne advanced through several leadership roles at Crawford & Company—the world’s largest independent claims adjusting firm—including Branch Supervisor, Claims Manager, and Catastrophe Unit Supervisor during the Hurricane Andrew recovery. He led teams of adjusters, managed multimillion-dollar commercial losses, performed environmental and cargo claims surveys, and represented insurers in mediations and litigation proceedings.
Etienne’s professional credentials reflect his deep commitment to excellence. He holds several of the industry’s most respected certifications, including:
-
Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), with a concentration in Commercial Lines
-
Associate in Claims (AIC)
-
Certified umpire through the Windstorm Insurance Network and the Collins Center
-
eDiscovery Executive Certificate (eDEx), earned in 2025
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, Etienne is uniquely positioned to serve a diverse client base, ranging from commercial enterprises to public institutions. His client-first approach, extensive litigation background, and in-depth knowledge of insurance coverage and dispute resolution make him a powerful ally for policyholders navigating the complexities of post-loss recovery.
