Biography
Natascha Drekonja did not set out to become a property insurance attorney. She set out to be a voice for her community—and the law, it turned out, was the most powerful voice she had. As an undergraduate, Natascha discovered an early interest in contract law that led her to pursue a legal career. For the next three decades, she built a broad civil practice rooted in contract law. She is a passionate advocate for the community and her clients and is deeply woven into the fabric of life in Grand County and the State of Colorado, serving in judicial, elected, and appointed leadership roles.
Her commitment to the community took on new meaning in October 2020 when the East Troublesome Fire tore through Grand County, becoming one of the most destructive wildfires in Colorado history. Natascha could not rebuild fences or frame walls, but she could read an insurance policy. As her neighbors struggled to understand their coverage and their legal rights, she stepped in. What began as community service quickly revealed itself as a calling.
When the Marshall Fire struck Boulder County in December 2021, Natascha was ready. She not only helped survivors navigate the claims process and challenged unfair insurance practices but also recognized that the issues she was seeing extended far beyond individual claims. She went on to collaborate with Colorado legislators and the Division of Insurance to strengthen policyholder protections and address carrier conduct, helping shape significant reforms that benefit Colorado policyholders today.
Natascha’s extensive background in contract interpretation and deep understanding of Colorado’s insurance landscape made her a natural fit for Merlin Law Group. After spending five years working alongside the firm through her own practice, she now serves as an Of Counsel attorney. Today, with over 30 years of legal experience and six years devoted to first-party property insurance law, she represents policyholders in complex residential and commercial property insurance disputes.
At the heart of Natascha’s practice is the simple belief that policyholders deserve experienced advocacy, fair treatment, and someone who will stand with them through every stage of the claims process.
Born and raised in Austria, Natascha grew up with a love of the mountains and is happy to call Grand County Colorado home. When she is not in the office, she can be found skiing, XC-skiing, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and sailing with friends and family.
