Mark Dillman has been a policyholder advocate in some way, shape, or form for most of his life. He owes that to growing up in a public adjuster family. Like many involved in the business, he was exposed to how an insurance claim operates from a young age. Mark recalls raking through debris to record “dental floss and toothpicks” (which his father would remind him not to miss) to properly complete a contents inventory starting in middle school. Helping policyholders who had just suffered a detrimental loss be “made whole” quickly became a rewarding passion.
Born and raised in Connecticut, it was only fitting that Mark attended the University of Connecticut for his undergraduate degree. Here, he studied business management with a concentration in entrepreneurship. After graduating in three years, he returned to his hometown to help create a public adjusting company under the guidance and expertise of his father. Mark received his Connecticut Public Adjusters license in 2015 and has adjusted a range of property claims.
Observing how many claims required expert handling that went beyond claim adjusting, Mark decided to attend Boston University School of Law where he graduated in the top 25% of his class. During his tenure at BU Law, he was fortunate enough to intern at a large insurance brokerage as well as a plaintiff-side property insurance law firm to gain valuable experience.
Immediately following law school, and prior to joining Merlin Law Group, Mark worked as the Staff Attorney at United Policyholders – a non-profit 501(c)(3) that provides trustworthy and useful information to insurance consumers across the country. While working at United Policyholders, Mark quickly became familiar with many of the attorneys at Merlin Law Group who volunteered their time pro bono to help policyholders in need. It was this pure commitment to policyholders that led Mark to Merlin Law Group.
Mark works as an associate under Dan Veroff and Victor Jacobellis in the firm’s San Francisco office. In his free time, Mark is most likely watching the Red Sox, figuring out who’s pitching tomorrow, or watching re-runs of past games.
